In Legends of Equestria, players may own several pets that will follow them around and be loyal companions. Pets are purely for aesthetic purposes for all races except Earth ponies. Earth ponies are the only race that can earn pet-related Talent marks, in turn unlocking special abilities for their pets (most notably Combat).

Six commands are available to command one's pet.

Two of them are available to all ponies.

  • Sit causes one's pet to stay seated in a single position.
  • Follow undoes the sit command, allowing the pet to follow the player normally.

For Earth ponies training in Animal Care during the quest One Pet in the Hoof or by purchasing the Animal Care skill Guidance, four more commands will become available.

  • Assist allows the pet to use its abilities in heat of combat.
  • Passive enables the pet to not retaliate against enemies that are currently attacking the player.
  • Aggressive enables the pet to retaliate against enemies currently attacking the player.
  • Attack causes the pet to attack another player or mob that is targeted by the player. Pets can deliver limited damage to an opponent but can perish in combat.

Four different pets are available, and can only be obtained from completing specific quests. All pets are currently obtained through "eggs," items that can either be used through the player's inventory or added to the hotbar and used from there, at which point the pet will begin to follow the player around. Pet eggs have unlimited uses.

A list of pets are shown below:

Image Name Special abilities Obtained from
DOG Dog none Dog Egg from completing the Intensive Carrot Unit quest
PetBunny Bunny none Rabbit Egg from completing the Dust and Bunnies quest
Cat Kitty Cat none Cat Egg from completing the Belongs in a Museum quest
Turtle Turtle none Turtle Egg during the One Pet in the Hoof quest

Storing Your Pet:

Once selected, your pet will follow you everywhere, but can sometimes get hung up on certain landscape features (such as bridges). There may be times where you find it advantageous to 'store' your pet for the time being, which is a fairly simple procedure.

First, make sure you have their egg from when they were 'hatched' in your satchel's inventory (a turtle will only go in a turtle egg, a cat will only go in a cat egg, etc.). Now double-click your pet; the pet should disappear, and the number beside the egg in your inventory should change from a '0' to a '1', which indicates that your pet is stored inside. From here, you can either carry it around with you in your bag, or store your pet's egg back in the bank and retrieve it whenever it suits you.

During Combat[]

There's been an update that a pet can now help earn Animal care experience during combat, there' also a slight chance of earning a bit of Partying experience. If the pet engages in combat and defeats the mob(s) by itself, he/she will still earn experience, but the loot will not drop unless the player is involve in combat. It's closely the same way as the Guards.
